A police inspector is urging people to lock their cars after a spate of thefts from vehicles.

In the space of five days, several cars across the Maldon were targeted with hundreds of pounds worth of belongings and cash taken.

Between August 16-20, thieves struck in Longship Way, Oak Close, Clayton Way, Markland Drive and Beeleigh Road, Maldon.

Among the items stolen were power tools, designer sunglasses, a Calvin Klein wallet and cash.

Inspector Chris Kilgallen, who is based at Maldon police station, said: “It appears we have someone targeting unsecured vehicles in the Maldon area and taking any valuables that have been left inside.

“Please can everyone try and ensure they don’t leave anything valuable in their vehicles and make sure they lock up their vehicles over night.”
