A keen air cadet represented Maldon on a trekking expedition to Iceland.
Dominic Finch, 18, an ex-Plume pupil represented 1207 Maldon Air Cadet Squadron and Essex Wing Air Cadets on the trip.
The expedition, part of the Duke of Edinburgh Award, led Dominic to explore snowcapped volcanic mountains in the region with a group of Air Cadets from all over Essex.
Dominic, who has recently been promoted to the role of Cadet Warrant Officer after a gruelling interview and test drill, said he enjoyed the challenge.
He said: “We covered 25 kilometres a day.
“The hardest bit was when we had to walk across an ash dessert for 12 kilometres.
