Unemployment drops in Tendring

UNEMPLOYMENT in Tendring has fallen for the third month in a row.

Latest figures showed there were 3,407 claiming job seeker's allowance last month, down from 3,550 in April.

The Office for National Statistics said there were 16 less unemployed people in the Tendring district compared to last May.

Vacancies at Tendring’s Jobcentres has also risen to 610, from 477 last month. There are now fewer than six people chasing each job.

Ten per cent of 18 to 24-year-olds are also claiming benefits, down from a high of 12 per cent in February.

The figures mean four per cent of Tendring’s working-age population is now on benefits, compared with 3.9 per cent regionally.

In Colchester, just 2.7 per cent – 3,290 people - are out of work.
