CALLS to start a major upgrade of Dovercourt Swimming Pool within a year have been rejected.
Labour councillors put forward an amendment to this year’s Tendring Council budget calling for a £700,000 cashpot, set a side for the upgrade of the pool, to be spent.
They also called for an additional £800,000 to spent upgrading Harwich Sports Hall.
But the amendment was rejected at the budget meeting on Tuesday.
Stephen Mayzes, cabinet member for leisure, said: “The £700,000 remains in place, however, we are carrying out a full review of our leisure services.
“If after the review our aspiration is to invest in that facility, the money is there."
