Pedestrians walking to Manningtree railway station are "taking their lives in the hands" due to speeding traffic in the village.
The Manningtree Rail Users Association and Lawford Parish Council have asked Essex County Council’s (ECC) Highways department to look at improving safety for pedestrians on Cox’s Hill.
Association chairman Neil Skinner said there have been concerns over the crossing for many years, and it was time action was taken before a serious accident occurs.
Last April ECC carried out some safety improvements on Cox’s Hill, and Tracey Chapman, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transportation at ECC, said there were no plans for further work.
