A VILLAGE pub has been crowned the best in Tendring for the second year in a row.
The Haywain in Little Bromley near Manningtree fought off all competition to win Pub of the Year from the Tendring Branch of Camra, Campaign for Real Ale.
It is the second time the pub has received the accolade since it opened in December 2007.
Owner, Andrew Newton, said: “We are all delighted at The Haywain with this result and the recognition of the quality of beers on offer and the friendly service.
“After losing it’s shop, pubs and post office in recent years, as have many villages, we have received tremendous support from the village of Little Bromley.”
Branch chairman, Jeff Luesley, said: “With so many pubs serving high quality real ale in Tendring it is a fantastic achievement for the Haywain to be our Pub of the Year in successive years.”
Tendring’s pub of the year is voted for by the Camra members living in the district and the Haywain finished top of the list with the Royal Fusilier at Aingers Green in second place and Harwich’s New Bell Inn finishing third.
“Having shortlisted the local pubs in contention for the award our Camra members visit them all before voting,” added Mr Luesley.
“Landlords have no idea when our members might pop in to check them out so a pub has to maintain a very high standard at all times.
“Just getting on the short list is a great achievement so the Haywain has done remarkably well to win for the second time in a row.”
