SCHOOLCHILDREN got up close to creepy crawlies to help learn about caring for all living things.

The pupils at Mistley Norman Primary School became budding entomologists and zoologists as part of their topic work.

The whole school took part in workshops with The Bird Man, which saw them learn about different birds of prey and how they have adapted to their environment.

Children in key stage two also found out about different careers you can have working with animals.

Headteacher Karen Jones, said: "The whole day was filled with numerous moments of awe and wonder - particularly when Alaska the eagle took flight around the hall.

"Children in willow class were visited by a local vet who spoke to the children about how to care for their pets at home.

"She also told the children about some of the different animals that you might find in the wild and how we can help look after their habitats.

"Nursery and reception children also welcomed Zoolab this week.

"The children found out fascinating facts about snakes, giant millipedes, snails, spiders and cockroaches and got to hold a range of different creatures throughout the session."

Children in the school's cedar class took part in mini-beast hunts throughout the grounds as part of their topic 'why are bugs important?'.
