OLD Christmas trees have helped raise more than £350 for charity.

M J Enoch Tree Surgery and Landscapes, based in Bradfield, held a charity tree recycling day last Saturday.

People around the Manningtree area were asked to clear their trees of decorations and put them outside the front of their homes for collection.

For a suggested £5 donation, the company then picked the old trees up.

They will now be chipped and recycled as wood chippings.

Matthew Enoch, who runs the company with his wife Julie, said: “A big thank-you to everyone that supported our event.

“We are very pleased to have raised £375 so far for Acorn Village, so we will definitely be collecting trees again next year.”

Julie said about 70 trees were collected on the day.

“We are really pleased with how it went,” she added.

“We’ve thought about doing it previously but it was a bit late. We chose Acorn Village because it’s a local charity to us and it’s a great cause.”
