DETAILED plans for the first phase of a controversial 360-home development have been given the go-ahead, despite objections.

Rose Builders was granted planning permission for the development on land east of Bromley Road, Lawford, last year by Tendring Council.

The development, which will be built on the 23 hectares of land, will include a village green, public open space, structural landscaping and a playground.

It will also include two access points, pedestrian and cycle routes, new primary school access with off-road pick up and drop off points, public toilets, parish council offices and an 80-space car park.

Members of the council’s planning committee agreed the layout, design, scale and landscaping for the first 120 of the homes.

The development is among an additional 1,200 homes in Lawford, Manningtree and Mistley which have already been agreed.

Tendring Council received 19 letters of objection with fears over an increase in traffic and the infrastructure would not be able to support additional residents.

Cath Bicknell, Tendring Council’s head of planning, said the application is for the western part of the land with the rest to follow later.

She said: “It is a thoughtful layout which plays to the strengths of what is on the site already.

“All the properties meet our garden size and parking standards and there is a mix of two to five bedroom homes.

“Most are two storeys and there are 13 bungalows.”

As part of a legal agreement with Rose Builders, the firm will make a financial contribution to health and education facilities and highways improvements will also be implemented.

Homes will also be gifted to the Lawford Enterprise Housing Trust to provide affordable housing for local people.

A construction management plan will now need to be agreed as part of the proposal to deal with traffic during the construction of the homes.

Manningtree Town Council raised numerous concerns about the scheme although Lawford and Mistley parish councils did not object to the plans.
