FIVE people have been arrested after eight garages were raided by burglars in Brightlingsea.

The garages were targeted by crooks in Cinque Port Road on Wednesday night.

A number of items were taken, including a fridge freezer and disco equipment.

Insp Darren Deex, of the Tendring Community Policing Team, said: “Acting upon information received from the public we went to a property in John Street, Brightlingsea.

“We subsequently arrested five people and recovered what is believed to be stolen items.

“All five remain in custody and are being spoken to.

“There were eight garages targeted that we know of and a range of items were taken including disco equipment such as lighting and speakers.

“We would like to thank the community for their support by coming forward with information.

“We were quick in responding to information and were proactively looking for suspects."

A 21-year-old man, a 19-year-old man, a 17-year-old male and two 16-year-olds are currently being held at Clacton Police Station on suspicion of burglary.
