IT was full steam ahead as hundreds of visitors attended a model railway exhibition in Lawford.

A charity model railway exhibition attracted large crowds to the Venture Centre 2000, in Bromley Road, throughout the day on Saturday, December 9.

For the event there were a host of model railways, as well as both new and second-hand railway items for sale.

There were about 400 guests how come to the exhibition and the event raised thousands of pounds for St Helena Hospice.

Steven Hughes, show organiser, said: "We raised a fantastic £2,020 including all donations we received on the day.

"It's a fantastic total to which we are very grateful to everyone who came along for helping us smash the £1,000 target we had."

Mr Hughes added: "We had a fantastic collection of 17 model railway layouts, a ride on railway and a number of traders, allowed visitors to enjoy a range of modelling displays and buy those Christmas gifts.

"There were smiles on everyone's faces all day long with a rush on the fantastic catering from Lawford 1st Scouts ensured everyone had a fantastic time supporting St Helena Hospice with crowds throughout the day right up to closing time.

"We would like to extend our thanks to everyone who came along and supported the event."
