A SIX-YEAR-OLD Norwich Terrier called Merlin will be hoping to cast a spell over audiences at this year’s Princes Theatre pantomime in Clacton.
Merlin will be taking his place alongside the cast of Beauty and the Beast next month.
He will be the first live animal on stage in a Princes Theatre panto and is looking to play a leading role.
Merlin is a bit of a veteran when it comes to shows, having appeared at Crufts aged just six month old and enjoyed his chance to shine. He went on to complete three years in a row at the prestigious event.
After that he moved on to competition obedience and picked up a number of accolades and also picked up the Trick Dog Champion title in 2015.
Merlin also features in the Little Dog Laughed 2018 calendar.
Wendy Bilsby, theatre manager, who is a dog lover herself, said: “It certainly will be different this year having a dog in the show and we just hope he behaves himself.
“Merlin certainly has a good pedigree and it looks as though he loves an audience.
“I am sure he will go down very well with the children – and quite a few adults.”

Members of the cast, including The Only Way Is Essex’s Dan Osborne will be attending Saturday’s Victorian Christmas Market at the Princes Theatre.
It gives them a chance to meet up with fans ahead of shows getting underway on December 9 and going through until January 1.
Tickets can be booked by calling 01255 686633 or online at princestheatre.co.uk.
