DEFIANT residents turned out in force to object to fresh plans to build 110 homes on greenfield land in Lawford.

At a meeting of Lawford Parish Council, fears were raised about the amount of housing developments getting the go-ahead in the area.

More than 650 homes are set to be built as part of two schemes for land off Bromley Road, in Lawford, and between Long Road and Clacton Road, Mistley.

Now Gladman Developments are seeking views from residents over plans for 110 houses, plus public open space, on land off Grange Road, Lawford.

A public consultation leaflet has been distributed to houses across the area.

Lawford councillor Carlo Guglielmi said the parish council would not formally register its support of objection to the scheme until plans are submitted to Tendring Council.

“Having said that, I have been involved with the applicant Gladman’s on two occasions - recently for a scheme in Wick Lane, Ardleigh, which was turned down due to the impact it would have had on the location,” he said.

“Tendring Council has demonstrated it has a five year housing supply.

“I fear that consultation to some developers is shoving a leaflet through a letter box and asking the public to comment.

“Once the comments start coming in and an application goes in, they will use these responses to say they have consulted.

“I would urge residents not to respond until the plans have been officially submitted to Tendring Council.”

He added: “At the meeting there seemed to be a general concern from everyone about the increased traffic along School Lane - which is very small.”

A planning statement from Gladman Developments said: “The site is sustainably located with easy access to a wide range of existing community amenities and the public transport network.”

Gladman Developments had not responded at the time of going to press.
