A 71-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a cyclist died in a crash. 

Police are appealing for witnesses of the fatal crash, which took place just after 8pm on Harwich Road, Elmstead, on Saturday. 

It is thought the cyclist was struck by a car, which then left the scene.

Paramedics and police attended but the cyclist died at the scene.

The 71-year-old is also under suspicion of failing to stop at the scene of a road traffic collision. 

He has now been released by police under investigation.

Officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward or anyone who may have captured the incident on dash-cam footage.
