BUDDING thespians and soulful singers have been invited to audition for a village’s production of Sister Act.

Brantham Amateur Theatrical Society is looking for residents to tread the boards for their next show, staged in February next year.

The society will be performing their own adaptation of the musical comedy box office hit.

Established in 1982, the society is an award-winning village group made up of about 100 members of all ages.

There will be an introductory meeting for Sister Act on Tuesday, September 26 at 7.30pm in Brantham Village Hall for anyone with an interest in getting involved.

John Hoskyns, musical director, said: “We have our big meeting at the end of September as we want people to be interested.

“At the meeting we go through what happens in the show and if people are interested in acting or even working on the set design back stage we will hold a couple of workshop sessions.

“When choosing what show we are doing I try and look at what the group can do, what will work for an audience and what music will be manageable for the cast.

“For this show I wanted to do something that can stretch the cast, but will also work well.”

The music for the production is by Alan Menken, who also wrote the music for Little Shop of Horrors - which was the previous year’s show for the society.

Last year about 25 people were cast for Little Shop of Horrors and John is hoping for a similar sized group for this production.

The last show has received several nominations in this year’s North East Essex Theatre Guild Awards for Best Musical, Best Musical Direction, Best Actor, Best Young Actress, Best Costume, Best Set Design and Best Technical Achievement.

The awards evening is on Friday, September 8 at the Princes Theatre, Clacton. For information contact John Hoskyns on 07739 899414.
