A COLLECTION of world-famous wrestlers will be going head to head with homegrown heroes next weekend.

The Wrestling League, based in Harwich, will be taking over Kingsway Hall for fans to watch a series of power-slamming matches with wrestling stars.

The event has been dubbed as the biggest event in wrestling history in the town by organisers and will see 25 wrestlers fighting each other on the night.

Predicted as the main draw of the evening is progress world champion and current wrestling league champion Pastor William Eaver, from London, who will be defending his title against opponents in the ring.

Europe’s hottest tag team London Riots, as well as Lord Gideon Gray and hometown hero Harry Mant will be competing.

As well as male stars, 15-year-old Harley Rae who studies at Harwich and Dovercourt High School will be the the youngest female in the UK to make her wrestling debut against Candyfloss.

Mark Young, Wrestling League promoter, said the event comes following the success of the last matches in the Kingways Hall which saw the crowning of the King of Bros in April.

The match sold nearly 300 tickets and he said he hopes this event will sell a similar amount, if not more.

He said: “We put on our first show in 2014 and it was a massive success.“

"I think wrestling is so popular now in Harwich because it gives the town a novelty factor and it is something different for people living here to go to.

“The schools have also been a big catalyst for the success of the shows and it has been like a domino effect.

He added: “It’s great that Harwich now has a sport that it’s known for which provides theatrical and athletic entertainment with both world famous stars and local talent.”

Doors open at 5.30pm for a 7pm start on Saturday, July 29.

Tickets are available from ML Warnes in High Street or at www.facebook.com/WrestlingLeague.
