PRE-school children have joined a fight to stop parents from parking dangerously outside their nursery.

Yellow lines have been repainted outside Oakey Dokeys Pre School and All Saints Primary in Great Oakley.

But drivers are ignoring the lines and parking on a tight corner, near a junction and down the unmarked Wix Road.

Shirley Funnell, co-manager of the pre-school, said: “We had new yellow lines painted about a month ago, but still people are ignoring them and parking on the yellow lines on a corner.

“We’ve had problems with people parking up on the grass verge near the lane leading to Oakey Dokeys and reversing at the top of our lane, which is really dangerous for the children coming into nursery.

“It’s been an ongoing problem.

“We’ve sent emails to parents and worked with the school, which has sent emails.

“Unless someone is out there in a high-visibility jacket, which I did three days last week, they seem to continue to do it.”

Concerns have been raised that there could be an accident on the road if parking does not improve.

Mrs Funnell said: “People come around the corner at 50mph, even though its a 30mph road.

“We have parents with small children in pushchairs having to move around cars and shuffle out to cross the road.

“There have been near misses.

“It will only take one time for something to happen for them to realise how dangerous their parking is, but we don’t want that to happen.”

The pre-school is now set to ask the North Essex Parking Partnership to extend yellow lines down Wix Road to try and stop parents parking on the small road and blocking the lane to the nursery.
