A DETERMINED grandad and his neighbour have climbed up three of the highest mountains in the UK to raise thousands of pounds for charity.
Ken Ellis, 75, and his neighbour Alan Coleman laced up their walking boots to reach to the summits of Scafell Pike in England, Glen Nevis and Ben Nevis, in Scotland, at the end of last month.
The pair who both live in Oakland Road, Dovercourt, climbed the mountains over three days to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Sandra Ellis, Ken’s wife, said Ken and Alan wanted to give something back to Macmillan Cancer Support, which looked after some of their relatives through their battles with cancer.
Sandra said: “Both mine and my husband’s families have suffered with cancer and Macmillan has been a huge help for us.
“Alan and Ken would like to thank family and friend who sponsored them on their recent charity mountain walks up Scafell, in the Lake District, on to Fort William, in the Scottish Highlands, up to Glen Nevis, and lastly Ben Nevis.
“They have a special thanks to the Royal Oak Pub for raising a glass for them and letting the community know they raised a total of £2,350.”
Sandra added: “I am very proud of Ken and Alan for achieving their goal and raising so much money for charity.”
