A POPULAR parading peacock has risen to stardom in a village with residents fearing he could fall fowl on busy roads.

Dubbed as Lord Percy Peewee Herman Peacockington III of Lawford, the male peacock has been given his own Facebook page where fans post photographs of him daily.

Launched this week, the Facebook site includes sightings, videos, and even information on diet - he’s particularly partial to dry cat food, grapes and broccoli.

It’s thought Lord Percy began showing up in residential gardens nine months ago.

The species of peafowl is not native to the UK so it is unclear where he came from.

Caroline Hall, who has snapped photographs of Lord Percy, said: “He first came to our attention at my daughter’s house when he turned up in the garden about four months ago.

“But it seems he moved in before that.

“He stayed in my daughter’s garden most of the time for a few weeks and roosted in a neighbour’s tree in Stourdale Close at night.

“My family christened him Herman but we found out other people called him Percy.

“My son, Tom, then decided to create a Facebook page for him - it’s gone viral.

“Within hours, it had 70 members.”

Along with the good-natured fun of the page, there is also talk of moving Lord Percy to a more suitable and safe home or getting signs made up to warn drivers he is crossing the road.

Caroline said: “It started as all about this horrible noise, he’s got a really loud squawk he usually does late at night or early in the morning, and now it seems everybody loves him - it’s like a fan club.

“He regularly crosses Wignall Street so he could be moved for his own safety though people would be sad to see him go.

“Or there is talk of putting up road signs - both are good ideas.”
