PLANS to construct a new builder's merchants on former landfill site looks set to go ahead in Lawford.

NEED Holdings Ltd has put forward plans for Riverside Avenue West on a former landfill site which has been identified as contaminated.

Planning permission was previously granted by Tendring Council seven years ago but it was never implemented.

The newest proposal includes 2.4 metre high fencing, storage areas, car parking and turning areas.

The site is deemed as suitable as it lies deep within an industrial estate and visual impact would not be harmful.

The council decided the detail of the building is acceptable and in keeping with the surrounding development with light grey sheet roofing, wall sheeting and navy blue cladding panels to the entrance area.

Testing in 2010 revealed minimal contamination but further tests are required.

A Tendring Council spokesman said: “A total of 13 conditions have been imposed. We have also looked at noise mitigation measures as well as strict working hours as well as what happens with the waste from the ground clearance and development.”

Hours of operation will be between 8am and 6pm on Monday to Friday and 8am to 1pm on Saturday with no working on Sundays or Bank Holidays.

There was no objection from Lawford Parish Council and no other representations received by Tendring Council.
