A DAY of family fun is being held to raise money to keep a village park running in top condition.

Hundreds of residents are expected to head along to the event which is being held at Parkeston Welfare Park from noon until 4pm on Sunday, May 28.

Throughout the day there will be a host of activities and stalls for visitors including bouncy castles and face painting stalls as well as a beer tent, burger bar, and cake stall.

Parkeston Welfare Park’s committee is hosting the event for villagers, with music, food and inflatables for the children.

The committee has been running the event for the past two and a half years - holding two fun days each year.

Bill Davidson, chairman of the committee, said this year’s fun day will raise money towards the £2,000 a year bill for of insuring the play area.

He said: “As a committee we have to try and raise thousands each year for the park’s insurance cost and all of the proceeds raised at this event will go back into the park.

“The event is always a good day out for residents and this year we have multiple bouncy castles and inflatables for children to enjoy throughout the day.

“A range of stall holders will set up their stalls for the day and they are able to make donations which will go towards the park.”

There will also be candy floss stands, pop corn stands, a brick-a-brac sale, and raffle on the day on the day.

Mr Davidson, one of 13 members of the Parkeston Welfare Park committee who help organise the fun day, added: “Since the committee launched the fun days we have been able to transform the park from on of the worst in the area to the absolute best in the area.”

The site of the park was purchased in 1923 by three local men remortgaging their private homes to provide a safe play area.

Since 2011 it has had a new multi-use games area, children’s play area, outdoor gym, football pitch and nature park.
