TOWN Hall bosses want more power for its parking officers to move on groups who park illegally in Tendring.

Nick Turner, Tendring Council’s cabinet member for seafronts and parking, said the district council’s relationship with the North Essex Parking Partnership, is “prickly in parts”.

He has called on the Colchester Council-run partnership to give Tendring’s civil enforcement officers the powers to tackle illegal parking on public roads.

Mr Turner said: “All we are trying to do is to get the parking partnership to meet our needs.

“The partnership can’t always come out as quickly as we would like to deal with some issues.

“We are a car friendly district and don’t want to penalise residents or visitors who come here, although of course people do have to park properly.

“We have plenty of parking spaces so have different issues to Colchester and realise that for a county-wide partnership we are at the end of the line.

“What we want is the power for our own officers, with the permission of the partnership, to tackle any situations that arise.”
