VOTERS in Tendring have less than two months to make sure they are registered to vote and be able to take part in the May elections.

The call comes as the Electoral Commission launches a national voter registration campaign to encourage as many people as possible to register ahead of polling day on May 4.

Tendring Council is playing its part in the campaign by reminding its voters that they need to register by the deadline of Thursday, April 13.

If the miss the deadline they won’t be able to take part in the Essex County Council elections.

Ian Davidson, Electoral Registration Officer for TDC, said that time is fast running out for those who have not registered and want to be able to have their say.

“I would encourage everyone in Tendring to act now if they’re not already registered to vote,” he added.

“It’s a very quick and easy process to register, but if you leave it until after April 13, it will be too late and you will miss out on your chance to vote.”

Research shows that young people, students and recent home movers are particularly less likely to be registered to vote.

“So if you have moved house recently, then make sure you’re registered correctly. If you’re not registered, you won’t be able to have your say on issues that directly affect your day-to-day life in Tendring,” said Mr Davidson.

To apply to register to vote, visit www.gov.uk/register-to-vote before Thursday April 13.
