BURGLARS made off with three vehicle batteries after scaling a caravan park fence.

Batteries from an old 4x4 vehicle and two touring caravans were taken, at Greenacres Caravan Park, in Low Road, Dovercourt.

The batteries were removed between Sunday night and Monday evening.

Ian Pierson, who has managed the site for seven years, said the loss of the batteries will “put the business back”.

He war ned garages and other businesses in the surrounding area to be on the look out for similar incidents.

“We only have a couple of touring caravans on the site at the moment, which are being stored for someone,” he said.

“W e have an old 4x4 we use to move the caravans around.

“I figured something had happened when I went to start it up and it wouldn’t get going.

"It was only then that I realised the batteries had been taken.

“They rifled around one of the caravans, but took nothing else.

“It is a real pain – it puts the business back a day.

“The annoying thing is, we have been through the wh ole of the recent crime spree in the area without anything happening.

“With two weeks to go before we open, this happens,” he added.

The par k has 90 pitches and does have CCTV cameras. Mr Pierson added: “They were clearly going for the batteries specifically.

“From wh at I hear around the town, these people know they can shift this type of equipment easily.

“The heavy-duty battery was in the 4x4 – they would have taken some time walking back and forth with this stuff.

“The most annoying thing about these sort of burglaries is the damage done with it – the locks were broken to get at the batteries and into the caravan.

“This doesn’t happen a lot here.

“I think we benefit because of the smaller size of Greenacres – from our house, we can see the bottom of the park and all four fences.”
