MOTORISTS are set to face up to three months of “traffic chaos” while repairs are made to the A120 between Harwich and Colchester.

Highways England has announced a programme of works that w ll include road closures and diversions starting from January 9.

In a letter to residents, the agency said works will take place on the A120 from Great Bromley to Hare Green, between the B1029 and A133, to replace the central reservation barrier.

The works will take place until mid March between 8pm and 6am and there will be a full closure of the A120 to install and then remove traffic management.

There will also be a 40mph speed limit when the road is not closed.

A diversion route will also be put in place and motorists are advise to use the A1232 Ipswich Road South through Colchester, Clingoe Hill, the A133 Clacton Road and Harwich Road to rejoin A120.

There will also be additional maintenance work on the A120, including the Wix bypass, and A12 until late April.

Traffic management, traffic signals and 40mph speed limit will be put in place between 8pm to 6am while drainage repairs are made.

George Elmer, chairman of Ramsey and Parkeston Parish Council, said the works could cause traffic chaos for commuters, but that repairs are needed on “dangerous” parts of the road.

“It will affect us greatly as everyone coming here and to Harwich uses the A120,” he said.

“The drainage repairs are badly needed.

“If you get too close to the kerb you keep hitting the drains.

“If people complain about such things and want improvements then we are just going to have to put up with the works.”
