FIREFIGHTERS tackled a fire which engulfed 300 bales of hay.

The blaze broke out on a farmers land in Rectory Road, Little Oakley at around 10.30pm on Wendesday.

Two crews from Dovercourt were quickly on the scene to battle the flames.

As of 7am this morning crews were still there monitoring the scene.

A spokesman for Essex Fire Service said: "Crews worked with the farmer throughout the night to remove as many hay bales from the stack, while protecting the surrounding area.

"A crew is still at the scene of this fire monitoring the controlled burn."
