ALMOST 20,000 people are expected to descend on Lawford this weekend for the popular annual Tendring Hundred Show.

The agricultural and family show, which last year celebrated its centenary, will be focusing on the future of farming.

It will take place at Lawford House Park, in Bromley Road, Lawford, on Saturday.

The show will include a special i-Farm theme area that will allow visitors to explore the robotics and new technologies that are transforming farming and food production.

The show was first held in 1899 and is aimed at bringing the rural and urban populations of north Essex together.

Tom Glover, spokesman for the show, said: “This year’s iFarm theme will be a fantastic opportunity for visitors to check out the exciting technology and robotics that are changing the way we produce our food now and in the future.

“We expect over 20,000 visitors on the day and there is something very special about this one-day show.

“Last year, we celebrated the 100th show and looked back at the history of the club.

“We’re now very much looking ahead to the future and next 100.”

He added: “We’re a non-profit organisation and none of it would be possible without the hard work and passion of our army of volunteers.

“It’s another reason why it’s such a special atmosphere.

“There really is something for everyone at the show, whether you are into animals, shopping, food, sports, conservation, big or small machines.

“This year we also have a new children’s treasure hunt trail, which will be a lot of fun.”

A family show includes large displays of farming machinery and livestock ,and this year’s event will feature the 8ft Titan the Robot.

There will also be the Food Pavilion, celebrating regional food, as well as a local producers and children’s activity area.

The Dorset Axemen will be showing off their skills during a number of shows throughout the day, while other activities will include performing dogs, donkeys and dancers.
