WORKS are underway on a new £250,000 multi-use games area at a high school in Manningtree.
The three-court games area is being built at Manningtree High School by Rose Builders as part of planning permission for the neighbouring Summers Park housing scheme.
The turf cutting ceremony was performed on Monday by Dave Ashley, chairman of Lawford Parish Council and Tendring councillor Fred Nicholls, alongside headteacher Sally Morris and Rose Builders’ Steven Rose, Bob Christmas, Dave Pickett and George Hutley.
Mrs Morris said: “It’s a great resource for us, our neighbouring primaries and the wider community.
“The facility, which will completed in early September, will be used for tennis, five a side football, basketball and handball amongst other sports. It will be floodlit and available for public hire outside school hours.
“It is funded by Rose as part of their community contribution as they develop housing in the area."
