A TRAIN driver is preparing to take on a unique Zumba challenge in memory of his football stalwart father.

David White will be taking in 44 different dance classes as he travels from Land’s End to John O’Groats over three weeks from September 6 to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Mr White is taking on the challenge in memory of his father Mick, a stalwart of Harwich and Parkeston Football Club and a former manager of the Sunday Shrimpers, who died of lung cancer aged 73 in 2009.

He first began the fitness craze three years ago and believes the journey is going to be a genuine challenge.

“It is going to be quite tough because it works out at between two and three classes per day,” he said.

“As well as physical it is going to be a logistical challenge as well.

“I wanted to do a class as close to John O’Groats but I couldn’t find one within 50 miles so the last one I do will be in Inverness.

“I started taking Zumba classes three years ago and I really enjoyed it so it carried on from there.”

Mr White, who was born and raised in Harwich but now lives in Thurston, Suffolk and has had several family members who suffered from the disease.

“It is something which seems to repeat on the family and a disease which affects everybody.”
