A DEVOTED son will be pushing himself to the limit with a gruelling 100-mile bike ride in honour of his father.

Rob Dennis, of Grange Road in Dovercourt will be cycling from his home to King’s Lynn where his father Colin lives to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Colin has been suffering with liver and bowel cancer for seven years but has now been told that his illness is terminal.

Mr Dennis, a Network Rail engineer, has convinced his friend Lee Simpson, from Clacton, to join him along the route which takes in parts of Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk.

He said: “My dad has been suffering from cancer for seven years and we have now been told it is terminal.

“The only good thing to come out of the situation is the help we have had from Macmillan Cancer Support.

“My dad had three or four sessions of chemotherapy and after running some tests they have found it is not working anymore so treatment is being stopped.

“I have just started training and doing a bit of cycling and working out in the gym.

“They are really putting me through my paces and I had a leg session the other day and I couldn’t walk for three days afterwards.”
