HARWICH MP Bernard Jenkin has criticised the latest salary rise for politicians.

The Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority has announced MPs’ annual salaries will increase from £67,060 to £74,000.

The ten per cent increase was approved despite concerns by Downing Street and a number of MPs.

Mr Jenkin said: “I am not very amused by this whole situation.

“I would not have voted for a pay rise at this time, but I have no say over it.

“I can’t even refuse to accept it.”

The Harwich and North Essex MP added: “I do not discuss in public what I do with money. I do understand how much resentment will be caused by this pay increase.”
