LUCKY schoolchildren were the first to try out their village play area after it underwent a £40,000 makeover.
Dedham Parish Council was awarded funding from Essex County Council and Colchester Council to revamp the play area on the village’s Duchy Field.
Bark chippings have been replaced with a new, smooth surface, and the new equipment includes a climbing frame, funnels and a disabled-friendly swing. The existing swings and seesaw have also been renovated.
Sheila Beeton, parish council chairman, said: “The equipment had been there a long time and was quite shabby."
The county council gave £15,000 from its Community Initiatives Fund, while Colchester Council handed over £25,000 from money set aside from developers’ contributions.
