A HEARTBROKEN mother has vowed to raise awareness and funds to fight a disease that is slowly paralysing her daughter.

Molly Newham, 79, of Clacton Road, Mistley, has seen motor neurone disease leave her daughter, Teresa, barely able to walk and forced to communicate by writing on a tablet.

Having seen how much vital home adaptations and changes cost, Mrs Newham has made it her mission to get people to donate to the Motor Neurone Disease Association – a charity focused on care, research and campaigning for sufferers.

She said: “My sister-in-law died of the same complaint. She eventually had to go into a home.

“Now my daughter is in much the same position – she has some money, but is unable to get much help from anyone else.

“She has been a nurse all her life and has worked with the homeless, so she knows what suffering is about. Eventually, she will become completely paralysed.

“It is a very cruel disease – it is like your worst nightmare and we treasure all the time she is still with us.”

Mrs Newham plans to hold table-top sales and sell jam to raise money for charity. To donate, go to mndassociation.org/ get-involved/donations
