A HIGH school has gone green by having new solar panels installed.

Harwich and Dovercourt High School commissioned renewable energy company Evogreen to install 212 panels on the top of A Block and G Block at the Hall Lane site.

The school will now be able to save money on electricity bills, which can be pumped back into the school.

Pupils will also be able to monitor the generation of power produced by the solar panels via an online system, which the youngsters will use to form opinions about matters such as global warming. Support services director at the school, Steven Scott, said: “The educational tools means the pupils have access to real and live data relating to electrical generation, demonstrating this installation is in line with the school site’s wider commitment to sustainability.”

Further solar panels could be installed in the future.
