FURIOUS residents have called for action to be taken on an “eyesore” piece of land that has been blighting the view from their homes for five years.

Blue boards surround the site in Williamsburg Avenue, in Dovercourt.

Residents who moved into new properties opposite the site five years ago were assured the land would be developed.

They claim it is creating a bad impression for tourists visiting the town.

Valerie Sharpe, who owns one of the houses, said the boarding regularly blew down and had to be repaired.

“We are just sick to death with it,” she said. “The developer was meant to be doing something with it – that is what we were told when we bought our houses.”

Nigel Brown, communications manager for Tendring Council, said it was dealing with the agent responsible for the site to resolve the matter.

“The original hoardings have been repaired, but we accept that there are still some gaps and we have asked for these to be dealt with as soon as possible,” he added.
