SWIMMERS across Tendring made a splash to raise thousands for a charity.

More than 90 swimmers took part in the national Swimathon 2015 at Tendring Council’s swimming pools to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

There were 13 swimmers at Dovercourt Bay Lifestyles on Saturday afternoon who swam distances ranging from 1.5km up to 5km.

The total raised in Dovercourt has not yet been counted.

In total, 46 people took to the water at Frinton and Walton pool on Saturday, including 15 youngsters from Walton Primary School, who raised £600.

The site raised £2,600 in total, with a further £100 coming from cake sales organised by staff.

At Clacton Leisure Centre, 15 people took the plunge on Friday and another 17 took part on Saturday, helping towards a total of about £2,000.

Nigel Brown, Tendring Council’s communications manager, said: “We would like to congratulate all those who signed up for Swimathon 2015 at the council’s pools and put such a huge effort into the event.”
