We've put together a list of some activities coming up in Harwich and Manningtree this weekend.
1. An all-star line up for Martin’s blues revue
LIVE music returns to a popular Manningtree pub tomorrow with an all-star blues revue. The Red Lion, in South Street, will play host to an expanded version of Martin McNeill’s Bottleneck Blues, which includes harmonica star West Weston, pianist Tim Huskisson, double bassist JJ Zarbo, drummer Marc Cecil and singer Ruby Florence. Band members will be able to showcase their talents across three sets with talented guitarist Martin playing stripped down Delta and Chicago Blues. Then Ruby Florence will front the band for a batch of soulful songs, while the final set is set to be a blistering experience focusing on West’s fiery harmonica and Tim’s knockout tinkling on the ivories. Tickets cost £10 in advance from the Red Lion and £12 on the door. Doors open at 8pm.
2. Singing group go back to their roots
A SINGING group are returning to their original home for a concert with music by Bach and Haydn. The Stour Choral Society will be performing at Mistley Parish Church tomorrow at 7.30pm. Sopranos Catherine White and Susie Hyman will be singing with tenors Sam Oladeinde and Guy James and bassist Laurence Williams, under the direction of conductor Duncan Archard. Versatile organist Stephen Smith will also be performing The Bach. Tickets are £10 on the door. For more details, go to stourchoral society.co.uk or call 01206 395263.
3. Real ale and morris dancing
MORRIS dancers will be touring the Tendring district to promote rural real ale pubs tomorrow. The Leading Lights morris dancing group will perform outside a handful of pubs in a tour, which has been put on by Tendring CAMRA, entitled Morris Traveller. The event was first staged in 2013 and has been brought back this year by popular demand. The tour begins at the Village Maid in Bradfield at noon, followed by the Plough Inn, Great Bentley, at 1.15pm, the Ship Inn, Kirby le Soken, at 2.30pm, the White Hart, Weeley Heath, at 3.30pm and the Ship Inn, Great Clacton, at 4.15pm.
4. Disco is all set to boost cause
A FUNDRAISING disco is being held tomorrow. The doors open at Parkeston Railway Club at 7.30pm and tickets cost £3 on the door. Money raised will go towards Parkeston Welfare Park and Parkeston Residents’ Association.
5. Indie rock band to play at Kingsway Hall
INDIE rock favourites Magpie will be playing at Kingsway Hall, in Dovercourt, tonight. Sheffield band Sabella and the Umbrella Assassins will also be performing. Entry costs £4, which includes a free shot. Doors open at 8pm. Venue bosses have also secured Animal Noise, who have been featured on Radio 1 as well as playing major shows up and down the country, to perform on May 2. Tickets for that gig cost £6 and are on sale at the hall.
6. Cat rescue charity hosts table top sale
A CAT rescue charity is holding a table-top sale in Lawford. Kitty Kat Rescue will be hosting the event at the Venture Centre between 2pm and 4pm on Sunday. Tables cost £6.50. To book, call 07816 529877.
7. Nursery family fun day
A NURSERY is holding a family fun afternoon tomorrow. Oakey Dokeys PreSchool, in Beaumont Road, Great Oakley, will be opening its doors between 1pm and 4pm. Pony rides, guinea pig handling and a teddy tombola will all be on offer, plus the Easter bunny will be making a late appearance. Entry costs £1.50 and all children can take part in a raffle with the chance of winning prizes.
8. You’ll be having a riotous laugh with dramatic society
RIOTOUS laughs are promised in the latest production from the East Bergholt Dramatic Society. The last Tango in Whitby by Mike Harding, will be performed at the Constable Hall today and tomorrow from 7.30pm. Tickets cost £6 in advance on 01206 396674. Any remaining tickets will be available on the door for £7.
