VOLUNTEERS tidied up their village and planted about 100 trees as part of a project of improvements.

Wix Parish Council organised a litter-pick on Saturday morning, which saw 15 rubbish bags filled.

Emma Cansdale, council clerk, said: "It was really good.

"We picked up litter around the village, concentrating on Harwich Road, Colchester Road, Clacton Road and Bradfield Road.

"We filled 15 bags."

Trees were also planted around the children's play area off Harwich Road, along with a special jubilee oak tree which has been growing in a nursery bed since it was donated to the village for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in 2012.
