SEAFRONT teams across Tendring are preparing for a busy summer.

Beach patrol, seafront wardens and parking and seafront officers will be on duty throughout the season.

Tendring Council has recruited 28 staff for the period.

Patrols have already started at Clacton’s West beach and in Walton during weekends and on bank holidays.

Teams at Clacton’s Martello Bay and in Frinton, Brightlingsea and Dovercourt will be in place from May 23.

At weekends they operate from 11am to 6pm and will also work during on Monday to Fridays during the school holidays from 11am to 5pm.

Nigel Brown, Tendring Council’s communications manager, said: “This is a very important service which the council provides at the most popular beaches and last year they dealt with almost 1,400 incidents.

“The teams had 70 rescue boat and jet-ski call-outs, reunited 69 lost children with their parents and gave out minor first aid on more than 200 occasions.”

The teams also give out advice on beach safety and tackle people concerning dog and cycling bylaws.

Mr Brown added: “They work alongside the emergency services and are committed to savings lives and ensuring everyone enjoys their time at the beach and returns home safely.”
