A YOUNG entrepreneur is appealing for votes to help him win a slice of a £1million cashpot for a product that could rival Apple’s new smartwatch.
Stuart Scott, 21, of Hewitt Road, Ramsey, has come up with an idea called Digitocks – a refittable watch attachment that links to the wearer’s phone and warns them about incoming notifications like calls and texts.
He has now entered the idea into Sir Richard Branson’s Pitch to RichCampaign and could end up presenting his project to the Virgin boss.
Stuart, who is studying industrial design at Brunel University in London, will be honing his pitch in Brighton next week and believes the gadget could help people take control of their digital lifestyle.
“I came up with the idea when I saw an advert about wearable technology,” he said.
“In my opinion the Apple Watch is great, but the design means it will keep people as involved in their digital worlds as they already are.
“With Digitocks, you would be able to set up profiles, so if you were on a business trip, you could link it to your phone and set it so you only receive notifications from your boss and colleagues.
Stuart already has more than 350 votes and is leading in the New Ideas category.
