SIGNS have been put up around a village calling for fewer houses to be built.

A number of placards with slogans on have been placed by the Action Group East Bergholt, which is against 144 homes that have been mooted for one side of the village.

They read: “No mass housing in Bergholt” and “Bergholt is a village not a town”.

Bidwells and Knight Developments want to build the mixture of homes, employment land and public open space on a site off the B1070.

A pre-submission consultation has already been held in an effort to gather public opinion.

Action group chairman Peter Dent said: “This group has been set up to stop the development in its entirety.

“We feel the development and the size of it would be totally out of keeping with the village and Constable Country as a whole – the infrastructure is not there to support it.”
