A COLLECTION of paintings inspired by the East of England’s coastline are being shown at the North House Gallery from tomorrow.

Chronicles of Water by Daisy Cook shows her fascinations with the interplay of light, water and sky on a coastline that bears the scars of powerful erosion by the North Sea which is constantly changing.

Born in 1965, Cook is a self-taught artist who has been showing successfully since 1999.

The art critic Andrew Lambirth has described her paintings as “abstract imaginings”.

She said: “I begin by pooling paint in very liquid form and let it run and eddy into the canvas, creating the first shadow or trace.

“Over time,Islowly build up layers, creating textures by pressing material or paper into the wet paint.

“I tend to use earth colours and Prussian blue, and occasionally a hint of pink.”

The work will be hung at the gallery at The Walls, in Manningtree, which is open from 10am to 5pm on Saturdays or by appointment until May 9
