A MASSIVE haul of counterfeit Nike trainers worth £250,000 have been seized at Harwich International Port.
Officers from Essex Trading Standards intercepted 10,000 pairs of sneakers with a street value of a quarter of a million pounds on Monday which had been brought to Harwich from Latvia in a trailer.
If the footwear had been genuine, the lost to Nike could have been as high as £800,000.
Essex County Council’s member for Trading Standards Roger Walters said: “I am pleased another consignment of counterfeit goods has been intercepted before reaching the public.
“Counterfeit goods are never worth the money for consumers. There are not guarantees for counterfeit products and there are no assurances their production meets the required safety guidelines.”
The shoes will now he destroyed.
