VILLAGERS are desperately needed to join a campaign to save a disused church and turn it into a community centre.

Parkeston Residents' Association is calling on the Chelmsford Diocese to hand over St Paul's Church to the village rather than sell it to a developer.

Bill Davidson, chairman, said the group fears a buyer would knock down the 100 year-old church to replace it with flats.

Businesses have already pledged to help fix up the building if it was to be transformed into a community hub.

But more help and support is needed.

Mr Davidson wants to hear from anyone who was married, christened or had any service in the church as well as those willing to help with the project.
