A PRO-TESCO campaigner has said the loss of Tesco was “potentially catastrophic” for the town.
Tendring Council granted permission for the store in Station Road in July 2011.
As part of the permission, thousands of pounds were expected to be handed over to help support the town centre and provide improvements at the railway underpass in Lawford.
But the announcement last Thursday to scrap the build has left question marks hanging over a number of projects relying on the development.
Mark Morsley, Manningtree councillor and Tesco supporter, said: “It is disappointing. I felt from day one it would benefit the town and I still believe it would have done."
