FED-UP councillors could be ready to launch a campaign to get footpaths fixed.
Manningtree Town Council has been locked in a battle with Essex highways for more than two years to try to get the town’s notorious pavements fixed.
Now councillors have discussed starting a campaign to get things moving, which could include presenting highways with a giant envelope filled with pictures of the dangerous defects.
Councillor Mark Morsley believes something needs to be done to shake up the department.
He said: “Pavements in Bradfield are being fixed now and beforehand they were not that bad.
“How can those be done when it is so bad in Manningtree? It seems slightly bizarre to me.
“Maybe we could start a campaign.
If we make enough noise, maybe they will do something.”
Councillors believe the worst problems are in High Street and South Street, and Kerry King suggested making it a red letter day for Essex highways, which was backed by the council.
“We need to get the most enormous envelope we could possibly find and hand deliver it with a message to say it is no longer a small problem – it is a big problem,” she said.
An Essex highways spokesman said: “We are aware of the pavement defects on both Manningtree High Street and South Street.
“It is our intention to make repairs as soon as it’s practicable to do so, and certainly within the current financial year.”
