AN incident which saw a lump of concrete smash through the windscreen of a car on the A120 is believed to have been an accident.
A driver, 20, was left shaken on Friday evening after the concrete slab crashed into her windscreen, becoming lodged in the glass.
She was driving on the stretch of the A120 near Great Bromley at the time.
Police attended the scene and launched an investigation to find out where the 1ft by 1ft projectile had come from.
Originally they believed it could have been thrown from a bridge over the A120, or from a passing car.
But officers have now found a pothole in the road which matches the size and material of the concrete chunk.
Det Insp Leighton Hammett said: "Having looked at all the circumstances surrounding this incident the most likely explanation is that this piece of concrete was kicked up into the windscreen of the car by a passing vehicle.
“We are satisfied that there was no criminal involvement in what happened.
“We have spoken to the Highways Department and the damage to the road has been repaired."
