A WOMAN was left in shock after a slab of concrete smashed through the windscreen of her car.

Police were called to the A120 near Great Bromley after a grey Fiat 500 was hit by the chunk of concrete.

When officers reached the scene they found the 20-year-old driver parked in a nearby lay-by and suffering from shock.

The slab – about 1ft by 1ft in size – was left lodged in the centre of her windscreen.

It happened at about 9.30pm on Friday night. The driver had joined the road at the Ardleigh interchange and was driving towards Harwich.

Police are not yet sure where the concrete came from.

Just before the impact at least one other vehicle had passed the woman’s car, while she had also just passed under a bridge over the A120.

A full search of the area was carried out by officers, including the launch of the police helicopter.

Nobody suspicious was identified in the area and the bridge appears to be completely intact.

Det Insp Leighton Hammett said: "We are keen to identify the vehicle that overtook the woman just before the impact, any vehicles that may have been transporting concrete or any suspicious behaviour seen on bridges.

“If you were driving on the A120 or via any bridges between the Ardleigh Interchange and the A133 junction at the relevant time and have any information please call us."

Anyone with information should call Clacton police on 101.
