HEADTEACHER Robert Garrett is a man that likes to step out of his comfort zone.

He moved 140 miles from Leicestershire to take up the role at the Harwich and Dovercourt High School – all because he was looking for a new challenge.

“Last year I thought, if I don’t go now I probably won’t ever go,” the 52-year-old said.

“It was hard to go, but it was absolutely the right thing to do.

“I wanted to be somewhere where I would be able to make a difference to people who are willing to embrace that. I knew I wanted to work within a supportive partnership of schools

“This is a school wth huge potential. The staff are very enthusiastic and passionate about what can be achieved."

Work to change the curriculum and expand vocational courses at the school are in the pipeline, but Mr Garrett said he will be working alongside the staff and students to make any decisions about the future.
