WORK on the refurbishment of a village cricket club’s pavilion will get underway next week.
Volunteers and members of Great Bromley Cricket Club are carrying out the £45,000 project.
The final funding was secured when Tendring’s Big Society Fund stumped up £20,000 for the scheme.
The contribution has been added to £10,000 from Essex County Council’s Community Initiatives Fund as well as £15,000 from the club itself.
Terry Cuthbert, vice president of Great Bromley Cricket Club, said: “Without these grants we would not have been able to proceed with the refurbishment of our pavilion.
“We aim to complete the work by the end of February.”
The scheme will involve enlarging and improving the pavilion changing rooms, as well as replacing and enlarging the toilets and showers.
It will also include a totally refitted kitchen, new roof, disabled toilets and umpires’ changing rooms.
Alan Goggin, Tendring Council’s cabinet member for finance and transformation, added: “We are pleased to be able to support this village cricket club with their building project which will improve their base for cricketers of all ages.
“It is also great to see that the actual work is being undertaken by tradesmen who are either members of the club itself or volunteers.”
